Balcony Volume 1, Issue #2 feat. Sterling Toles interview

from Sector 7-G Recordings

"Balcony" is a hand-made zine by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Fred Thomas, who has played and toured with a lot of bands (Saturday Looks Good To Me being the most widely known) and run multiple small labels.

A few months back we sold some copies of Sterling Toles' "Resurget Cineribus" to Encore Records in Ann Arbor. Fred was working that day and he ended up grabbing a copy. It wasn't long before Fred was reaching out saying that the album had blown him away he needed to interview Sterling. The two had never met, but we were excited to facilitate a meeting of the minds.

The 5,000 word interview contained in this zine is a distillation from a many hours conversation between these two fixtures of authentic, community-based local music culture. Currently available in print only, this interview is a deep dive into the history, context, meaning and philosophy behind "Resurget Cineribus". Recommended as a valuable appendix for understanding the RS album.
